This C-arm raises the bar for intra-operative 3D imaging and navigation, making surgical interventions more precise.
Versatile CT scanner
The new Somatom Spirit from Siemens Medical Solutions is a compact multislice CT scanner that was launched at UKRC in Manchester to enable the cost-effective strategy of local CT. The company is pursuing a strategy to meet both the targets set and the latest clinical guidelines for patients presenting with head trauma or related symptoms. The concept of local CT is to provide an enhanced patient service for routine studies due to the scanner’s proximity to the patient source, whether that is A&E, ITU or specialist clinics.

Custom made uniforms
Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham has launched a UK first in association with Lauffenmuhle and Wearwell. New uniforms have been designed exclusively for Queen’s using a unique colour-coding system throughout the centre, with eight different colours to distinguish the departments. The colours feature on the uniforms as epaulettes on blue/white striped dresses or tunics worn with navy trousers, these colours will help staff to be identified easily.

Drug-eluting stent gains CE approval
Medtronic has received CE Mark approval for the commercial sale of the Endeavor drug-eluting coronary stent with the rapid exchange delivery system in European Union member countries, including the UK and Ireland, where the new medical device is manufactured. The Endeavor system – the first cobalt alloy platform on the drug-eluting stent (DES) market – offers best in class deliverability, excellent clinical results and a strong patient safety profile.

The company’s new “special protected” Plume SP fistula needles have an in-built system to protect users from needlestick injuries. They are increasingly popular among informed renal units.
UK first for special catheter
Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust is the first hospital in the UK to offer the new silver alloy coated Foley catheter which can help to dramatically reduce healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) as a first line treatment option in all departments.
