3M has announced the launch of the second generation electronic test system for porous load steam sterilisers (ETS-2). Launched nearly a decade ago, the ETS is fast becoming the industry standard, high-tech alternative, for conducting the daily Bowie and Dick Test as required by current UK guidance, HTM 2010.

Washer-disinfector for ENT scopes
LANCER has launched a new bench-top washer-disinfector that decontaminates four to six ENT scopes (depending on type) in just 30 minutes. The 1345 ENT AER has a specially designed rack that holds the scopes in position while powerful spray washing is directed at the critical areas and the delicate distal tip carefully nestles on silicon matting, which still allows it full exposure to the cleaning process.
Sprays keep instruments wet
With regards to the debate over whether soil should be allowed to dry on a surgical instrument or whether it should be kept wet, the sterile service sector appears to favour the latter. To help achieve this, RUHOF has a choice of two enzymatic foam sprays: Prepzyme Foam Spray, supplied in a pump spray, and Prepzyme XF Extreme Foam, which is supplied in an aerosol format – ideal for cannula. Application of these products will help prevent soil from drying on the surface of the surgical instruments and prevent rusting.

Minimising medication errors
Philips et al performed a retrospective analysis of mortalities associated with medication errors, which identified improper dosage (40.9%) and wrong drugs (16.2%) as the main error types in administering medication. The analysis showed that the most common causes were insufficient knowledge (44%) or communication errors (15.8%).

Digital radiography
XOGRAPH HEALTHCARE has recently installed two buckyStar digital radiography (DR) systems into X-ray rooms 1 and 2 at The Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH). Canon’s advanced fixed and portable single tile DR detectors have been fitted to both rooms, providing high quality diagnostic images within seconds, significantly improving workflow and productivity. RBH also took this opportunity to install Xograph’s digital orthopaedic image stitching software and hardware.
