Smart pill detects GI tract changes

SmartPill’s Wireless Motility Capsule (WMC) is an FDA registered and CE marked medical device in the form of an ingestible telemetric capsule that is able to detect changes in pressure, temperature and pH as it transits through the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract.

Changes in pH measure transit time of the WMC through different regions of the GI tract (stomach, small intestine and colon) while quantifying gut contractility. It is approved for use in the assessment of gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying causing symptoms such as nausea, bloating and abdominal pain) and chronic constipation. ALIMENTARY INNERVATIONS will be the exclusive UK distributor for this new device and will co-ordinate the UK launch of the WMC in collaboration with SmartPill Corporation and HCA International. The WMC will enter clinical use for the first time in the UK via the Neurogastroenterology Diagnostic Centre at the Princess Grace Hospital.
