Lens free ophthalmoscope improves eye care

OPHTHALMOS, specialist in the design and manufacture of medical devices for use in ophthalmoscopy, has launched a lens free ophthalmoscope, the Optyse. Unique in its simplicity, size and affordability, the Optyse is set to transform the use of retinal screening in general medical practice across the globe.

Invented by Roger Armour and developed by Ophthalmos, Optyse eliminates the complexities, obstacles and costs that have often proved a barrier to the use of standard ophthalmoscopes by medical professionals who are not specialists in ophthalmology.

Roger Armour commented: “By eliminating the need to calibrate lenses for a clear view of the back of the eye, our lens free technology has resulted in a unique, simple and effective device that provides comparable performance to standard direct ophthalmoscopes. They can be very useful to non-ophthalmology specialists such as GPs, nurses, paramedics and students, as well as specialists that are teaching medical students.”

He continued: “The Optyse lens free Ophthalmoscope is an easy to use, affordable, pocket-sized product designed to make it easy for practitioners to carry it on their person and to incorporate the technique into their work routine.”
