For the third year running, all Nuffield Health hospitals performing joint replacement surgery in England and Wales have been awarded the highest ‘Gold Quality Data Award’ by the National Joint Registry (NJR) for their commitment to patient safety.
The NJR collects and monitors high-quality orthopaedic data on the performance of hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder joint replacement to drive higher standards of care, patient safety, and value in surgery. The registry also provides surgical performance feedback to orthopaedic clinicians and joint replacement implant manufacturers.
The award is available to all NHS and independent sector hospitals performing joint replacement surgery in England and Wales, and it recognises those hospitals that have met the registry’s highest data quality standards.
The NJR Quality Data Provider certificate scheme was introduced to offer hospitals a blueprint for reaching high-quality standards relating to patient safety, and to reward those who have met the registry’s high targets in the achievement of the quality of the data collected.
This is the third year in a row that all its eligible hospitals, 33 in total, have achieved the highest ‘gold’ award by the NJR, meaning they all achieved a score of 100% in the annual data quality audit.
Mr Tim Wilton, National Joint Registry Medical Director, said “Congratulations to colleagues across Nuffield Health. The Quality Data Provider Award demonstrates the high standards that are being met in ensuring compliance with the registry.
“As well as being a fundamental driver to inform improved quality of care for patients, our registry data also provides an important source of evidence for regulators, such as the Care Quality Commission, to help to inform their knowledge and judgement about the quality of health services.”
Mr Arthur Stephen, Chief Medical Officer at Nuffield Health, said, “As an orthopaedic surgeon, I see every day how the National Joint Registry supports improvements in the delivery of high-quality, safer care for our patients. To have all 33 of our eligible hospitals achieve ‘Gold’ status for the third consecutive year is a remarkable milestone and a testament to the dedication of our teams, who have submitted more than 25,000 records this year, and consistently strive to achieve the highest standards. This recognition reflects not only their expertise, but also our commitment to quality outcomes and patient safety.”
