ABHI UK Pavilion at Arab Health 2023 Marks Strongest Year to Date

The ABHI UK Pavilion at Arab Health 2023 saw its most vibrant and successful year to date, with organisers confirming record attendance.

80 percent of exhibitors joining the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) UK delegation rebooked on the spot, with remaining spaces already going fast for the largest medical trade show in the Middle East. The ABHI has announced that a waiting list is now in place for the 2024 exhibition, with sponsorship opportunities also available for those looking to partner and collaborate with the ABHI UK Pavilion.

Michelle Michelucci, Head of International Events, ABHI said: “The ABHI & DIT Stand was awash with visitors coming to find out more about the UK companies exhibiting at this year’s show, and to visit the presentations and simulations carried out over the four days.

“Rebook for the 2024 has been out of this world with 80 percent already signed up and we have a waiting list for those wanting to join. It is wonderful to see events in full swing and confidence back again.”

Here are a few of the successes of the 2023 edition:

Lawton Tubes, a UK supplier of copper tubes internationally, secured their single largest order to date in the company’s 105-year-old history. The Coventry-based family-owned business – listed within the Sunday Times Top 200 fastest growing British companies for exporting – announced a deal worth £2 million for the supply of air conditioning copper tubing to Saudi Arabia.

Open Medical signed its first partnership agreement in the Middle East. The company has partnered with Tamer Group to deliver its award-winning, market-leading digital transformation solutions to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Through this partnership, they will be supporting the Kingdom on the healthcare transformation journey towards Vision 2030.

Respiratory Innovation Wales, part of the Welsh Pavilion delegation, signed a collaborative agreement with Dubai Health City, American Spine and Wellness by Design. As part of the partnership, which is aimed at promoting innovation and advancing research in the field of respiratory medicine, the University of South Wales will collaborate with an academic partner university in Dubai to develop further opportunities.

Five of the most innovative and internationally recognised healthcare providers from the UK’s National Health Service joined together to establish King’s International Consortium, which aims to work in partnership with external investors to deliver large-scale international healthcare projects, in markets such as the Middle East. The five providers include King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The London Clinic signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Emirates Health Service to further deepen collaboration on key areas such as education and training, and research and innovation. The clinic was part of the Harley Street Medical Area (HSMA) delegation showcasing the strength of London’s medical excellence.

Sonrai Analytics, part of the Northern Ireland Pavilion delegation and a UK global precision medicine innovator in AI, announced a strategic partnership with UAE-based Alliance Care Technologies to bring their transformational AI solutions to enhance cancer detection and biomarker discovery to the UAE market.

Proximie, the global health technology platform digitising operating rooms, hosted an uncemented total hip replacement broadcast live to the UK Pavilion from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The procedure was performed in the hospital theatres by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Zameer Shah.

This year the Association of British HealthTech Industries and the Department for International Trade (since updated to the Department for Business and Trade) joined forces to run an extensive UK programme demonstrating the importance of UK and UAE relationships – with a series of presentations, seminars and live surgical simulations taking place across all four days.

Throughout the event, the UK Pavilion – the second largest pavilion at Arab Health 2023 – highlighted the strengths of UK healthcare innovation and celebrated collaborations between healthcare providers, clinicians, NHS Trusts and healthcare technology companies.

The 48th edition of the show saw 135,880 professionals visit from 183 countries and 3,358 exhibitors in attendance – its largest to date. The Department for International Trade also brought a number of its commercial officers to the event, in order to provide expert briefings on key global markets. There was a 78 percent increase in these meetings from last year’s show, with 273 briefings provided.

Michelle added: “Overall it was a great week for everyone representing the UK at the show. The ABHI UK Pavilion saw leading UK health technology companies, NHS Trusts and private hospitals groups join together to showcase world-leading innovations and industry firsts. Collectively, the strengths of the UK were out in full force.”

The 49th Arab Health Medical Expo will take place from 29 January - 1 February 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, UAE.

With the majority of places already secured on the ABHI UK Pavilion at Arab Health 2024, a waiting list is now available for UK companies. For more information, contact: michelle.michelucci@abhi.org.uk.
