Calcium could pose ‘heart risk’

Calcium supplements prescribed to postmenopausal women to improve bone density may boost the risk of heart problems and stroke, according to a report in the British Medical Journal.

The researchers at the University of Auckland, in New Zealand, cautioned that the results are not conclusive and any potentially detrimental effects must be balanced against the benefits calcium has in strengthening bones.
