SheathsÆ advantages highlighted

Urinary incontinence afflicts men worldwide and, in the UK alone, over a quarter of men aged 40 plus have clinically significant symptoms of one or more bladder problems, points out Bard.

Recent studies carried out in the US compare sheaths and indwelling catheters in terms of infection risk and patient satisfaction. Those taking part in the trials were hospitalised men, aged 40 and over who required a urinary collection device. The findings, published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, showed that not only did patients find the use of sheaths more comfortable, but that they are five times less likely to lead to bacteriuria and symptomatic UTI, than with the use of indwelling catheters. Bard, provider of urology products, offers a wide range of sheaths.
