‘Pioneering’ nurses to be recognised

Trailblazing nurses who have advanced frontline care are to be recognised in a national awards ceremony. Welch Allyn is seeking nurses to be nominated for their ‘Pioneers of Care Award’, which will be presented at the Florence Nightingale Museum on 15 June, 2012.

Jan McMeekin, marketing manager of Welch Allyn UK, said: “We are looking for real pioneers; individuals who go out of their way to work effectively, efficiently and empathetically with their patients and have introduced new techniques to solve problems and help improve lives.” Dr Steve Ersser, Dean and professor of nursing and dermatology care at the Faculty of Health and Social Care, at the University of Hull, said: “I am delighted to be invited to judge the Pioneers of Care Awards. It is important that innovation in clinical nursing is recognised and promoted. I will be looking for submissions that demonstrate how nurses are improving the way patient needs are met. In particular, I hope to see nursing examples that address needs which are currently poorly met or overlooked, through the use of skill, sensitivity, intelligence and resourcefulness.” Potential candidates can enter themselves or a colleague via the website: www.welchallyn.co.uk/ pioneersofcare before the closing date of 30 April, 2012. The winner will receive a £1,500 bursary for training and a ‘Pioneers of Care’ trophy.
