Emergency trauma register for UK personnel

The RCoA has offered its support for the establishment of a formal register of volunteer medical personnel for response to emergencies overseas.

UK-Med has been recognised by the Department for International Development and the Department of Health as the host for a new UK International Emergency Trauma Register. This register will be the focal point for those UK medical personnel who wish to volunteer to respond to large scale international emergencies. UK-Med will keep an up-to-date register of these people, their availability, and their skills, ready to deploy as part of a national response. It will also ensure that all those on the register are appropriately trained and will liaise with their employers to facilitate their immediate release and deployment. The register will include UK surgeons, anaesthetists, emergency physicians/nurses and other supporting medical, nursing and paramedical staff. www.uk-med.org
