The RCoA has offered its support for the establishment of a formal register of volunteer medical personnel for response to emergencies overseas.
UK-Med has been recognised by the Department for International Development and the Department of Health as the host for a new UK International Emergency Trauma Register. This register will be the focal point for those UK medical personnel who wish to volunteer to respond to large scale international emergencies. UK-Med will keep an up-to-date register of these people, their availability, and their skills, ready to deploy as part of a national response. It will also ensure that all those on the register are appropriately trained and will liaise with their employers to facilitate their immediate release and deployment.
