Cardiac system improves care

Conquest Hospital in East Sussex has installed a SIEMENS Axiom Artis dFC imaging solution with flat detector technology to serve as a dedicated cardiac system, in conjunction with the Siemens Axiom Sensis, a scalable haemodynamic recording platform, in its new cardiac catheterisation lab. The National Lottery’s New Opportunities Fund and the Department of Health funded the project, which included the build of a complete new cardiac catheterisation suite, which boasts six beds.

The new cath lab will facilitate angiographic procedures, allowing doctors to analyse the heart, arteries and for the insertion of permanent pacemakers. The Axiom Artis dFC is a full digital cath lab, which delivers outstanding spatial and contrast resolution for enhanced diagnostic confidence. Its improved system flexibility offers free access to the patient plus its largely automated touch screen operation translates into a highly efficient and smooth cath lab workflow – offering maximum patient comfort during the exam.

David Kempson, superintendent radiographer for cardiac imaging for East Sussex Hospital NHS Trust said, “The new installation at the Conquest Hospital complimented the Trust’s existing Artis dFC which was installed at Eastbourne in 2004. Clinicians have been delighted at both sites with the image quality and low radiation doses which the equipment provides.”
