Measuring the level of energy expenditure required to reduce the incidence of Type 2 diabetes in patients with impaired glucose tolerance, with a high level of accuracy, has now been revolutionised with the development of the SenseWear Pro2 Armband.
Distributed by APC CARDIOVASCULAR, SenseWear Pro2 is a multi-sensor monitor, worn on the tricep of the right arm which evaluates daily energy expenditure based on proprietary algorithms. In simple terms it uses a number of high precision sensors to gather information such as skin temperature, near body temperature, heat flux, movement, and galvanic skin response in conjunction with body measurements such as sex, age, height, and weight to calculate energy expenditure.
Weighing only 80 g, the armband is a lightweight device and can store up to two weeks’ worth of data and represents a major advance in the continuous monitoring in “free living” conditions, including the patient’s home.
