Undiagnosed dementia figures set to rise

The Alzheimer’s Society has released new dementia figures that indicated that, in 2021, over half a million people will be living with undiagnosed dementia. The study, Mapping the Dementia Gap, reveals the number of people with dementia in each part of the UK and the percentage who receive a diagnosis.

Without a formal dementia diagnosis it is not possible to access drugs or advice on how to live more effectively with the condition. However, many people delay seeking help because of low awareness of symptoms and treatments or fear that they will lose their independence.
