Decontamination trial success

A nine-week independent trial at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) NHS Foundation Trust of a Nanoclave UV cabinet has proved successful. The cabinet utilises ultraviolet (UVC) light to eradicate problematic pathogens on a broad range of medical equipment and electronic devices.

The independent trial assessed the ability of the cabinet to eradicate methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycinresistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE), Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Clostridium difficile from a range of surfaces. In total, 204 tests were carried out on 51 sites with five bacteria. The cabinet achieved consistent 5 log (99.999%) reductions in bacterial contamination on a variety of surfaces.
