Musgrove Park recognised for urology improvements

The urology team at Musgrove Park Hospital is celebrating following news that they have reached the Paris finals of a prestigious international award for their work with the new Mediplus Suprapubic Foley Catheter.

The team entered the patient safety category of the 27th International Conference of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare. There were 1,038 applications from 35 countries and the Musgrove Park team has been further honoured by being asked to provide a formal presentation in front of an international audience.

The team at Musgrove Park has found that, as a result of introducing the catheter, which improves comfort and safety for patients, they have been able to offer an outpatient suprapubic catheterisation service. They have also dramatically reduced the need for theatre and general anaesthesia – with its associated morbidity and mortality.
