Turning system reduces load for carers

The Swedish-designed in situ turning system, “WendyLett”, reduces the risk of pressure sores and shearing injuries; minimises the load and risk of injuries for carers; and reduces manpower requirements without compromising safety.

Washable at 90°C, the Romedic WendyLett turning system is an alternative to the traditional slide sheet. It remains in situ on the bed – thus enabling the user to turn independently wherever possible, reducing the load for the carer. The system consists of three components:

• A base sheet, fitted or flat, that has a silky, low friction panel in the centre of to assist or enable the user to turn independently.
• When added assistance is required, a striped drawsheet is added (WendyLett two-way). The weft and weave of the fabric interact with the base sheet so that, not only does horizontal turning becomes easier, but the user is also prevented from sliding down in the bed.
• If the user is heavier, or unable to assist, the WendyLett four-way should be used. This is a checked drawsheet, backed with a silky, low friction material, indicating that a multidirectional movement can be achieved.
• When the user is in much pain, agitated or heavy, the RoMedic “TopSheet” can be used in combination with the above and attached to a hoist to turn a person, eliminating the load for carers and facilitating a very gentle rotation for the user.

The UK distributor for the “WendyLett” range is NORDIC CARE SERVICES.
