IA is a patient support group run by and for people with ileostomies and ileo-anal pouches. Its primary aim is to help people who have had their colon removed return to a full and active life as soon as possible after surgery.
This surgery gives thousands of people a fresh chance in life providing freedom from the debilitating illnesses of ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases. With approximately 10,000 members, 55 local groups and a team of specially trained visitors, IA is able to provide patients pre- and post-surgery with the invaluable support of talking to someone who has shared the same experience. IA continues to work hard to raise awareness and challenge the fear and misconceptions that surround bowel disease and surgery.
