Improving understanding of infection prevention

An annual conference, “Healthcare-associated Infections” is taking place on 11 March at Church House, Westminster – providing an update on the next steps to further reduce infection, including those related to the use of devices such as catheters, central lines, surgical site infections and pneumonias.

Delegates will have the opportunity to hear from chair, Karen Taylor OBE, director for Health Value for Money, National Audit Office, as well as keynote speaker, Sally Batley, head of the Improvement Network, for the HCAI and DSSA programmes.  Sally Batley will deliver an update from the Department of Health – discussing national strategic support and guidance for continuous improvement (including a new national objective for MRSA) and the journey towards zero tolerance.

A practical guide to eliminating central line and ventilator-associated infection will also take place on 19 May 2010 at the Manchester Conference Centre. Delegates will have the opportunity to hear from chair, Dr Mark Patten, consultant anaesthetist (intensive care) and clinical director, Luton and Dunstable Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Patten leads the Critical Care Intervention of Patient Safety First, which aims to improve the care of patients receiving critical care through the reliable application of ventilator and central line care bundles.
