Patient warming improves outcomes

Perioperative hypothermia increases the risk of surgical complications including infection and blood loss. Therefore, perioperative warming improves surgical outcomes with direct and measurable benefits in terms of clinical performance criteria.

The NICE patient warming guideline (CG65) specifically identifies the carbon polymer warming system from INDITHERM MEDICAL as a reusable alternative to existing single-use products. According to NICE, comparing Inditherm technology with forced warm air, there is “no significant difference in core temperature for the two warming mechanisms in a direct comparison”, and the guideline also recognises that the Inditherm system does “not require any disposables and therefore has the potential to be more costeffective than forced air warming.” Inditherm Medical warming systems create no clinical waste, and having an energy requirement of less than 75 Watts, provide a direct benefit in reducing costs, both financial and environmental.
