Mediplus has introduced a series of practical updates to the S-Cath™ System, alongside the introduction of S-Cath™ System Long, to support greater clinical confidence, flexibility and improve usability. Together, the developments reflect the company’s continued focus on responding to clinician feedback and refining the S-Cath™ range around real-world use in suprapubic catheterisation.
The updated kit maintains the controlled Seldinger-guided approach that has made S-Cath™ a recognised option in urology and interventional radiology settings, while introducing enhancements intended to make the procedure more intuitive for healthcare professionals.
One of the key updates is the introduction of echogenic needle tips, designed to improve needle visibility under ultrasound. This can help clinicians identify the needle more clearly during image-guided placement and support greater confidence and safety during access, particularly where patient anatomy or clinical complexity requires careful positioning.
The update also reflects the growing use of ultrasound guidance in suprapubic catheterisation and aligns the kit more closely with current clinical practice. Mediplus has also removed the plastic sheath previously used to cover the guidewire. By eliminating this additional plastic component, Mediplus have reduced material use within the kit and taken a further step towards a more sustainable product presentation.
The revised configuration helps simplify kit preparation while reducing avoidable waste at the point of care. In addition, the tray layout has been redesigned to make the procedural sequence clearer and more intuitive. Numbered steps within the tray help guide clinicians through the order of use, supporting workflow efficiency and helping teams identify key components quickly during the procedure.
Alongside these refinements, S-Cath™ System Long provides an alternative kit option for clinicians requiring longer components. Developed in response to demand for greater choice, it features an extended sheath dilator, needle and guidewire, helping to support the needs of a wider patient group while retaining the controlled, Seldinger-guided technique. Together, the updated kit components and introduction of S-Cath™ System Long demonstrate Mediplus’ commitment to continuous product improvement, offering clinicians a more streamlined, flexible and sustainable solution for suprapubic catheterisation.
