British Medical Auctions Founder and CEO Markus Grad to step down after a decade of growth and industry leadership

British Medical Auctions (BMA) has announced that Founder and CEO Markus Grad will step down from the business after ten years of leadership, innovation and growth.

Since its founding in 2016, BMA has grown from a small start-up team into the UK’s leading specialist medical equipment auctioneer and asset remarketing partner. Under Markus’ leadership, the business has transformed how healthcare organisations realise value from surplus medical equipment, returning more than £100 million to healthcare providers, bringing over 300,000 medical equipment lots to market, and connecting sellers with buyers in more than 120 countries worldwide.

What began with a team of just three people has grown into a business of 37 employees, serving more than 500 healthcare organisations, including over 65% of UK NHS hospitals, more than 85% of NHS ambulance services, and every major UK private healthcare group.

Throughout the past decade, Markus has been instrumental in establishing BMA as a trusted partner to healthcare organisations across the UK and internationally. His vision for a transparent, efficient, and sustainable marketplace for medical equipment has helped thousands of assets find a second life while delivering significant financial returns to the healthcare sector.

Markus Grad, founder and CEO of British Medical Auctions, said:  "After 10 incredible years of founding and building British Medical Auctions, I’ve made the decision that it’s time for me to step into a new chapter and take on a fresh challenge.

“What started as an idea has grown into something far beyond what I could have imagined, shaped by an amazing team, supportive partners, and a community that believed in the journey from the very beginning.

“I’m immensely proud of what we’ve built together. There have been highs and lows, challenges and breakthroughs, but through it all, it’s been the people that made it truly special.

“This company has been a huge part of my life for the past decade. But I believe that growth comes from change and now feels like the right moment to let the next chapter unfold both for myself and the business.

“I leave knowing the company is in a very strong position, with a fantastic leadership team who will continue to drive it forward with the same passion and ambition. I remain a shareholder and will keep a keen eye on our future success.

“To everyone who has been part of this journey; thank you. Your support, trust, and belief have meant more than I can put into words. Onto the next chapter!"

Mat Davies, Managing Director of British Medical Auctions, said:  "Markus has built something truly remarkable. Through his vision, determination and entrepreneurial spirit, British Medical Auctions has become the market leader in medical asset remarketing and a trusted partner to healthcare organisations across the UK and internationally.

“The figures speak for themselves, but Markus’ greatest achievement is the culture, reputation and team he has built over the last ten years. On behalf of everyone at BMA, I would like to thank him for his immense contribution and wish him every success in his next chapter.

“We are fortunate to inherit a strong, growing business with a clear strategy, an exceptional team and exciting opportunities ahead. We look forward to building on the foundations Markus has created and continuing to deliver outstanding results for our customers and partners."

While Markus will step away from the day-to-day leadership of the business, he will remain a shareholder and continue to support BMA’s long-term success.

With a highly experienced leadership team in place, BMA says it is well positioned to continue its growth trajectory and further strengthen its role as a leading marketplace for healthcare equipment across domestic and international markets.
