Advancing surgery in the East of England

The new Welbeck Cambridge Surgery Centre will advance patient-centred, minimally invasive specialist care in the East of England, when it opens in 2026. Professor Khanduja (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon), Mr Brown (Consultant Neurosurgeon), Mr Donnelly (Consultant ENT Surgeon), and Dr. Rolfe (Consultant in Pain Medicine) provide an insight into what the new facility will have to offer.

When it opens in 2026, the Cambridge Surgery Centre at Unity Campus will mark a significant step forward for specialist healthcare provision in East of England. The new facility, developed by Welbeck Health Partners with a £27 million investment, will deliver a modern, consultant-led model of care that mirrors the successful framework established at OneWelbeck in London. With a strong focus on same-day diagnostics, minimally invasive procedures, and streamlined patient pathways, the Centre aims to set new standards for safety, efficiency and patient experience across the region.

Located just south of Cambridge and directly accessible from the M11, the Centre has been strategically positioned to serve both the residents from Cambridge and the wider population in East of England amounting to approximately 6.6 million. The surrounding area, long recognised as a global centre for science, engineering and healthcare innovation, provides the ideal setting for a new medical hub capable of attracting leading clinicians and delivering a world-class patient care and experience. Extensive on-site parking and excellent road links will further enhance accessibility, ensuring that patients from across the region can access specialist care without unnecessary travel.

As one of two new Welbeck centres opening outside London in 2026, the Cambridge facility reflects the organisation's broader strategy to expand high-quality private care across the UK. Its development will not only enhance regional healthcare capacity but will also create skilled local employment and stimulate economic growth. With an emphasis on clinical excellence, operational efficiency and patient-centred design, the Cambridge Surgery Centre represents a new benchmark in the delivery
of private healthcare for East of England.
