BD UK&I has announced a new partnership with South West Blood Bikes, a volunteer-led charity providing free, urgent medical courier services across Devon.
On 26th September, team BD and South West Blood Bikes opened a brand new facility with capacity for 4 bikes, two cars at what is now known as Blood Bikes’ BD Plymouth Depot. Sited on the busy entry point to BD’s Plymouth 100 acre, world class manufacturing site to better serve patients across West Devon.
This collaboration marks a significant step in the ongoing commitment from BD to support frontline healthcare services and community-led initiatives. Through this partnership, BD will help South West Blood Bikes expand their capacity to deliver vital medical supplies, including blood, pathology samples, medicines, and donor breast milk, to hospitals and patients across the region.
South West Blood Bikes, has seen remarkable growth in recent years. Operating with no paid staff, the charity has completed over 14,100 individual jobs and transported nearly 83,500 consignments since its inception. Their work has saved the NHS and local hospices over £773,000 in transportation costs, while ensuring timely delivery of critical items that directly impact patient care.
