At EBME Expo, sustainability and safety were high on the agenda. The refurbishment and repair of medical devices is an important aspect in delivering a more sustainable NHS, reducing waste and costs for healthcare providers.
Surgical Holdings showcased its full range of medical device repair, testing, and tracking solutions at EBME Expo – helping hospitals to improve patient safety, sustainability, efficiency and cost containment.
A key launch at the event was the MedZense LG20-e - the first light transmission tester that objectively assesses endoscope light quality across the visible spectrum.
Also on show was the DIATEG Professional diathermy tester that can eliminate any possible doubt regarding the integrity of the insulation layer on electrosurgical instruments.
The company has been undergoing some exciting changes of late – the family run business has been acquired by Stille AB, a business with a longstanding heritage in surgical instrumentation. With the added strength of the Stille product ranges, and advantages of European manufacture, Surgical Holdings says that it will significantly improve its overall offering to customers in terms of quality and supply chain resilience.
At EBME Expo 2025, Surgical Holdings’ Mark Pullen spoke to CSJ’s Editor on the importance of training to ensure patient safety. “Getting back to basics” and advancing knowledge on key medical devices is vital for the sector, he explains.
Mark goes on to outline how the company can provide onsite or online training to support EBME teams, as well as highlighting some important technology trends around track and traceability. He further discusses the health sector’s move toward increased sustainability. With Net Zero high on the agenda, many hospitals are moving towards refurbishment and repair of surgical instruments, instead of consigning instruments to the waste stream.
