The ShakerScope, available from TIMESCO, is a hand-held device which provides a light source for a range of essential medical instruments. It does not require bulbs or batteries.
Simply shaking the device for thirty seconds generates sufficient bright light for over twenty minutes of use. If the light is not required immediately, the charge will be stored for several weeks until required. Light is provided by a light emitting diode (LED) which has a life span in excess of 100,000 hours. The device incorporates a programmable microprocessor unit which makes the system highly efficient, indicates to the user when the device is fully charged, and provides a warning when charge is starting to run low. The ShakerScope is designed to withstand harsh environments and incorporates a bactericide-impregnated non-slip handle and a rugged dust- and water-proof outer shell which may be removed to facilitate sterilisation. Interchangeable instrument heads allow the device to be used for a wide range of medical applications. These include an ophthalmoscope, otoscope and laryngoscope.
