Sustainability high on the agenda for new SSD

IHSS has announced its pivotal role in the establishment of a cutting-edge Sterile Services Unit (SSU) at Adanac Park, Southampton University Hospital.

A recent gathering at Southampton University Hospital brought together key stakeholders including Gary Clarke, the insightful Managing Director at IHSS, along with Darren Carter and Matt Lemasonry, for a momentous discussion with Dr. Alan Whitehead, the esteemed Labour MP for Southampton Test.

The focal point of conversation was the groundbreaking Adanac Park development, poised to revolutionise healthcare infrastructure in Southampton and beyond. Integral to the discussion were insights into IHSS’s vital role in hospital operations. Through engaging demonstrations, attendees gained first-hand knowledge of the meticulous sterilisation processes essential for patient safety

Adanac Park, nestled within the Health and Innovation Campus, stands as a symbol of progressive healthcare delivery. Positioned adjacent to the bustling Brownhill Way roundabout, Plot Two of Adanac Park will host a range of critical services including a sterile services department, an aseptic pharmacy, and administrative facilities.

This strategic move aims to address spatial constraints at Southampton General Hospital, enabling the expansion of frontline clinical care services to meet growing demands.

The meeting served as a platform to underscore IHSS’s  commitment to innovation and sustainability. With a strong focus on eco-friendly practices, Adanac Park is poised to be a beacon of environmental stewardship. Plans include harnessing renewable energy through state-of-the-art solar panels, alongside thoughtful landscaping efforts to enhance biodiversity and enrich the surrounding environment.

A significant highlight of the discussion was the collective resolve to address sustainability challenges at Adanac Park. Mindful of environmental concerns, IHSS is leading efforts to optimise energy usage through innovative solutions such as waste heat recirculation and water recycling initiatives.

Dr. Alan Whitehead commended the collaborative efforts of IHSS, UHS, and Prime, envisioning Adanac Park as a transformative hub of healthcare innovation and excellence. The proposed conversion of the original Southampton sterilisation unit into additional theatres underscores the collective endeavor to meet evolving healthcare needs.
