Sprays keep instruments wet

With regards to the debate over whether soil should be allowed to dry on a surgical instrument or whether it should be kept wet, the sterile service sector appears to favour the latter. To help achieve this, RUHOF has a choice of two enzymatic foam sprays: Prepzyme Foam Spray, supplied in a pump spray, and Prepzyme XF Extreme Foam, which is supplied in an aerosol format – ideal for cannula. Application of these products will help prevent soil from drying on the surface of the surgical instruments and prevent rusting.

The use of lubricants on surgical instruments has prompted significant debate, with some sterile services units banning their use because of potential contamination and the lack of lubricant biocompatibility testing material.

Ruhof has recently carried out a whole range of testing on its lubricant Premixslip and the results will be available at the IDSc.
