Breast cancer breakthrough

A drug developed to prevent osteoporosis could dramatically slow the growth of breast cancer tumours, according to research from the University of Sheffield and Kuopio University in Finland.

When tested with doxorubicin, a chemotherapy drug used to treat breast cancer, zoledronic acid was found to vitually stop progression of the disease in mice. Clinical trials on humans have now commenced. The results were published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
