Stroke toolkit to improve services and reduce health inequalities

A new stroke toolkit developed by RightCare – in partnership with GIRFT and the National Stroke Programme – is now available to download.

The toolkit highlights the priorities in stroke prevention, identification, acute care, and rehabilitation, as identified in the National Stroke Service Model (NSSM), the GIRFT national report for stroke and Integrated Community Stroke Service Model, to support Integrated Stroke Delivery Networks (ISDNs) to understand the priorities in stroke care along the whole stroke pathway.

Supported by the Stroke Association, the toolkit also includes links to additional resources and an interactive self-assessment questionnaire to enable ISDNs and systems to identify priority areas for investigation and explore their responses.

The toolkit and self-assessment tool should be used alongside other resources to facilitate discussion and identify key opportunities to improve service provision and reduce health inequalities at a local level.

It is available now on the NHS England website. Additional RightCare resources such as data packs can also be found at the RightCare FutureNHS site (membership required).

GIRFT’s clinical lead for stroke David Hargroves, who was closely involved in developing the pack, said: “The publication of the RightCare stroke toolkit will help ISDNs and stroke professionals enormously.

“The tool brings to life our plans to develop stoke care in England, from stroke prevention to identification, acute care and rehabilitation. We encourage all ISDNs to use the toolkit and resources to understand their priorities and practically implement them.

“This toolkit may also be used to support regional peer reviews and benchmarking of current services and it has been wonderful to see that ISDNs have already started to use this resource.”
