Extract could stop breast cancer cell growth

Mushroom extracts could halt the growth of breast cancer cells, suggests research published in the British Journal of Cancer.

Studies show that Phellinus linteus can slow the growth of different types of cancer cells and improve the effects of anticancer drugs.

Researchers based at the Methodist Research Institute in Indianapolis, USA, think that the mushroom could stop the enzyme AKT from working, which is known to control signals that lead to cell growth and the development of new blood vessels, vital for cancer cell survival.
