Watchdog reports on private care

The quality of care in Scotland’s 14 private hospitals and 15 voluntary hospices is good, according to a new report from the country’s care regulator.

The Care Commission looked at areas such as staffing, standards of clinical care and quality of information available to people who use the services. It highlights several examples of good practice such as:

• Good programmes of staff training and continuous professional development.

• Good systems to monitor the quality of care and review outcomes.

• Effective systems for managing and storing care records.

• Good use of ICT.

The Care Commission found there are still some areas for improvement – including increased patient involvement in the way services are run.
