Darzi focused on long-term conditions

Health Minister Lord Darzi has attended a meeting with patients with a variety of long-term conditions, following his promise to “create a vision for the future that is developed and owned by patients” together with staff and public.

This patient-led event responded to the need for patients' voices to be heard alongside those of his clinical champions and was intended to feed into the NHS Next Stage Review final report.

The event was hosted by Asthma UK and attended by representatives from Arthritis Care, the British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK, the Long Term Conditions Alliance, Parkinson's Disease Society and the Stroke Association.

At the event Lord Darzi wanted to know if the examples of best-practice care in the long-term conditions pathway were appropriate: “I've come here today because you can tell me what it means to live with a long
term condition and what needs to change to improve healthcare and uality of life” Lord Darzi said. “When we know what you need we can work at a national level and with the SHAs to make that happen.”
