Clipper blade ideal for trauma

3M has launched a new clipper blade specially designed for pre-operative removal of heavy body hair.

The new Premium 40 Clipper Blade 9690, suitable for neurosurgery, cardiovascular and orthopaedic also has the ability to cut wet and blood soaked hair, making it suitable for trauma. The 9690 Clipper Blade provides functional benefit, with its pivoting head making removal of hair easy on difficult body contours. The individually sealed, single-use blades also reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

The alternative method of hair removal, using a razor, can result in the top layer of a patient’s skin being nicked or cut as the hair is removed. As a result, shaving has been found to be one of the most significant factors in increasing the likelihood of a wound becoming infected.

Clipping leaves only 0.5 mm of surface hair, and the removal is sufficient whilst avoiding the risk of nicks or cuts, thereby decreasing the risk of deep wound infection compared with razor shaving.
