Rise in C. diff deaths

The number of deaths from C. diff has soared in England and Wales, according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics.

Between 2005 and 2006, the number of death certificates citing the infection rose by 72%, to 6,480, although it has been suggested that this may be due to more complete reporting. Deaths involving C. diff in men rose by 77% and by 66% in women. Deaths involving MRSA remained roughly the same.
