Clinical engineers receive recognition

This year sees the launch of the new “Clinical Engineering Team of the Year” award from Welch Allyn. The award seeks to reward teams of clinical and biomedical engineers by recognising their contribution to healthcare in the UK.

Welch Allyn’s UK marketing manager, Jan McMeekin, said: “As well as being responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and quality assurance of hospital medical equipment, a clinical technologist (or biomed) may also be involved with the systems of improving equipment management (i.e. device training and asset tracking). Their knowledge makes a significant contribution to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients. In recognition of this, we are pleased to offer the winning team £2,000 of Welch Allyn equipment and the provision of a £1,000 educational fund to spend within the department for the overall benefit of their team.”

Teams will be asked to provide examples of a project which could have improved the day-to-day running of the department, involved a large procurement exercise or the amalgamation of a Trust, to name but a few possibilities.

The winning team will be announced at the annual “Completing the Picture” educational symposium which takes place on Thursday 12 June, at Silverstone Race Track, Northamptonshire. The winning team will also be provided with complimentary dinner and accommodation the night before the event.

Entry forms can be obtained by visiting: www.welchallyn.com and may be emailed to: clinengteam@hsdcomm.com. The closing date for entries is Tuesday 6 May 2008.
