Lighting advance meets medical task requirements

ROYAL PHILIPS ELECTRONICS has provided an innovative lighting solution to enhance the medical and teaching facilities at Raigmore Hospital near Inverness. Extensive research has been undertaken to determine the required lighting conditions for medical tasks in order to optimise the light provided by fluorescent lamps.

From an analysis of the data that this research produced, new lighting standards have been set bringing legislative pressure to bear on lamp compliancy. The Philips Master OptiView is a new generation of lamp, which unlike many conventional fluorescent lamps, complies fully with these requirements.

Having a colour rendering index Ra >90, OptiView is ideal for good visual observation of skin colour and in addition makes it much easier to locate veins for injections and extractions. Raigmore Hospital has decided to install it in all nine operating theatres.
