Trial shows potential for massive cost saving

A trial of the wipe clean duvets and pillows at Worthing and Southlands Hospital NHS Trust has shown that the products can reduce laundry bills and linen replacement costs, while reducing nurses bed making time. Following the trial, the Trust purchased 560 duvets and 1120 pillows from the Sylvan range manufactured by the Talley Group.

The products also help reduce the risk of hospital acquired infections by having a totally sealed polyurethane membrane coating preventing any contamination within the duvet or pillows from all forms of bacteria, viruses and soiled liquids.

Emma Cox, Clinical Procurement Specialist from Worthing and Southlands Hospital remarked, “The trial was originally requested by the Infection Control team, as part of the implementation of the guidelines from the Department of Health, for improving cleanliness and the control of infection. It is also expected to deliver over 100k reductions in linen cost. We are now hoping to achieve the same in the West Sussex PCT.”
