Custom made uniforms

Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham has launched a UK first in association with Lauffenmuhle and Wearwell. New uniforms have been designed exclusively for Queen’s using a unique colour-coding system throughout the centre, with eight different colours to distinguish the departments. The colours feature on the uniforms as epaulettes on blue/white striped dresses or tunics worn with navy trousers, these colours will help staff to be identified easily.

Fiona McQuire from Queen’s Medical Centre said that comfort was one of the areas that QMC was keen to improve: “Nurses and midwives were still wearing dresses that were designed 20 years ago. They told us they restricted full movement.” To address this issue, they looked at the fabric. Queen’s Medical Centre selected Lauffenmuhle for their innovative inherent stretch fabrics and it is the first UK hospital to introduce stretch across all uniforms. Rebecca Stretch and Evolution Stretch were selected from Lauffenmuhle’s extensive range. The fabrics are durable and comfortable for staff to wear, allowing for greater movement and mobility. They can also withstand high temperature washing, which is essential for infection control, health and safety.
