Trust employs silver to combat CAUTIs

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has decided to introduce Bardex I.C. silver alloy and hydrogel coated Foley catheters to help reduce HAIs. The technology is proven to reduce catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) by over a third.

Lead nurse for infection prevention and control at the Trust, Lesley Wharton said: “Though it’s early days we’re encouraged by the results so far. We will be carrying out a thorough evaluation at the end of the trial period and we’re hopeful that the results will be good.”
