Targets on waiting times revised

The Government has admitted that it has shifted the “goal posts” in relation 18-week waiting times and is no longer looking to achieve its 100% target by 2008.

Instead, it has set a threshold of achieving the 18-week target for 90% of patients who require admission and 95% of those who do not. The Government says this will take account of patients for whom delays are necessary because of the nature of their illness, as well as those who decide to postpone their treatment for personal reasons.
