Centre opens for study of life-threatening diseases

Andrew Davies, Minister for Finance and Public Service Delivery, officially opened Swansea University’s Institute of Life Science (ILS).

The £50 million centre is set to become a global player in vital research into serious or lifethreatening illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, obesity and mental health disorders.

The centre is the result of a significant joint investment by the Welsh Assembly Government, Swansea University, IBM and Boots. It will investigate the fundamental molecular aspects of diseases and treatments, through to healthcare delivery and the efficient practice of medicine.
