Gown maintains normothermia

An innovative disposable surgical gown that can be used for pre, intra and post-operative patient warming will be officially launched at AfPP Congress 2007 by ARIZANT UK.

Called the Bair Paws Patient Adjustable Warming System, this latest product from the pioneers of Bair Hugger therapy allows patients to control their own body temperature using forced-air warming throughout the pre- and post-operative phases. During surgery, clinical staff can attach a Bair Hugger warming unit to a separate port in the gown to help guard against unintended hypothermia.

Maintaining normothermia, defined as a core body temperature above 36°C, in the perioperative period has been cited within the NHS ‘Saving Lives Campaign’ as a key factor in reducing surgical site infection rates. As unintended hypothermia is far easier to prevent than treat, especially if warming begins in the pre-operative stage, the new Bair Paws System has a key role to play in reducing hospital-acquired infections.

The Bair Paws gown is made from a soft, comfortable material, ties at the side in two places and is generously proportioned. When compared with traditional gowns, it may not only prevent unintended hypothermia, but also spare a few embarrassed blushes, thanks to its better all round fit.
