Trust open day is first of its kind

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is to hold the first open day of its kind this weekend.

The event, between 9am and 2pm on Saturday 27 October, at the Deakin Centre on Richard Howe Way, s aimed at showcasing the work of Allied Healthcare Professionals (AHPs) and encouraging people to think about a career in the field.

AHPs, who represent a third of the NHS’s workforce, include speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, therapeutic radiographers, dietitians, diagnostic radiographers, operating department practitioners, music therapists orthoptics, prosthetists and orthotists.

Organisers say they look forward to welcoming students, university graduates, newly qualified professionals and experienced or return to practice AHPs.

There will be opportunities to join campus tours, hear career talks and presentations, learn about potential vacancies, and talk in person to some of the Trust’s AHPs.

Director of workforce David Wherrett said: “For the first time there will be an open day where would-be employees from any background can turn up without appointment to get a greater insight into the many roles and responsibilities available within the Allied Healthcare Professionals’ fields.

“There will be tours of key parts of the hospital, including a mock theatre to examine. On hand to offer advice will be representatives from departments, including Recruitment Services, Work Opportunities, Staff Bank and Health & Wellbeing.

“Our message to anyone thinking of a career here is ‘come and take a look. We have a lot to offer and it is incredibly rewarding work.’”

The open dayis the latest in a series by the Trust to attract talent from the local area. It has held open days for would-be apprentices, Health Care Support Workers and Nurses.
