Blood flow, blood pressure or both?

A haemodynamic specialist recognised the demand fromanaesthetists to be able to ‘see’ the relationship between aortic flow and aortic pressure on one display.

Complications are costly, with published reports showing £460 to £1100 per patient, this is estimated to cost Europe’s healthcare providers more than £1.5 billion annually.1-3 By 2020 it’s estimated that 309 million patients will undergo surgery worldwide.4 Of these, 1.3 m will die within 30 days of surgery, while a further 55 m will suffer – on average –a seven year reduction in lifespan. This is all due to postoperative complications.
