Silver technology used to fight HAIs

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, which already has one of the lowest rates of HAIs, has invested in a number of products designed with silver antimicrobial technology to help further reduce ‘superbugs’ such as MRSA.

Developed by BioCote, the silver is impregnated into standard hospital equipment and furniture, which can reduce the amount of bacteria on surfaces by up to 99.9% over a 24-hour period.

Lindsey Webb, Director of Nursing and Governance at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital comments, “We take infection control very seriously and as well as adopting all of the tried and tested techniques for improving hygiene standards, we are also looking at new technology to assist.”
