Single Point of Access service for PCTs

Harmoni, one of the largest primary care providers in the UK has secured the provision of additional services for Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust, with a Single Point of Access (SPA) service.

The company has already worked with the PCT, providing GP out of hours services. The new service best identifies the most appropriate pathway for each patient requiring urgent care, treatment in the right place, by the right person at the right time. SPA services have, in some areas, diverted up to 20 per cent of referrals away from the acute sector and into the community.

Buckinghamshire’s new Single Point of Access service has been designed as part of a programme to save the PCT £1.8 million over the next financial year. Alongside cost savings, all patients benefit from an easier referral process and many by being cared for at home or in a community setting.
