Stopping spread of prion proteins

DR. WEIGERT is a manufacturer of specialised detergents and disinfectants, sold under the trade name of neodisher, which are used for reprocessing surgical instruments, flexible and rigid endoscopes and all other medical devices.

One area that is very topical in the UK at the moment is the possible spread of prion proteins that contain variant CJD on surgical instruments. The company has a new detergent called neodisher SeptoClean that has proved to be very successful at removing prion proteins and also inactivating prion proteins.

The company has undertaken its own extensive testing at its main laboratories in Hamburg and independent tests have been carried out by the Robert Koch Institute. Further independent test results are available from SMP GmbH. A copy of these reports are available to potential customers.

The neodisher SeptoClean offers optimal cleaning without labour intensive pre-treatments. It is microbiocidal, bactericidal, mycobactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal – as well as offering prion protein removal and inactivation
