Identifying likely cases of COPD

Millions of people around the world have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but most of them do not know it.

Undiagnosed and untreated COPD sufferers are at risk of developing advanced COPD and requiring long-term palliative care. Early diagnosis can greatly enhance the effectiveness of medical intervention, particularly if the condition is diagnosed at the pre-symptomatic stage.

The VITALOGRAPH copd-6 is designed to help tackle the challenge of detecting COPD by enabling primary care practitioners to case select those at risk of COPD for fast, simple and effective screening. It identifies likely cases of COPD by measuring a patient’s obstructive index and FEV1/FEV6 ratio. Those whose measurements are within normal range can be screened out, allowing diagnostic spirometry resources to be focused on those most at risk.
