Boost for plastic surgery

A total of £1 million is set to be invested in plastic surgery services to help improve waiting times and the growing demand for access to emergency treatments for patients in Northern Ireland.

Health Minister Paul Goggins said the funding is part of a package of measures to improve the service that also includes three additional plastic surgeons, the development of a single integrated plastic surgery service, investment in staffing to enable more operating time and outpatient clinics, and extra clinics run by GPs and specialist nurses.

The Minister said: “New technologies and improved surgical techniques mean that plastic surgeons can offer more treatments than ever before. People suffering from serious burns, cancers or in cases where limbs have been severed, should have access to the best and highest quality treatment.
