Adopting innovation into mainstream healthcare

KEITH CHANTLER provides an insight into the latest innovations that are currently being used in clinical settings, which have been rolled out across the UK with the support of a leading NHS innovation service, Trustech.

There have been many exceptional ideas over the years; new service or medical technology developments that have transformed processes in healthcare to deliver better patient care. Trustech has been at the centre of numerous innovations, from leading-edge educational and training materials, and new uses for drugs, to pioneering equipment and devices. The organisation is in the enviable position of supporting some of the best ideas that help to improve NHS healthcare delivery.

A number of these ideas originated from healthcare professionals, who saw a clinical issue in their field of expertise that needed to be solved, and the idea grew from that point forward. As ideas, and when appropriate, such innovations should collectively be encouraged and supported more. There is an enormous amount of expertise, knowledge and intellectual property in the NHS; the key is to leverage such opportunities.
